Find Out Your Skin Type in Just 30 Minutes
For your skincare routine to really work, it’s important to know what type of skin you have. For example, products with beeswax may feel too heavy on oily skin, while the very same ingredient can be a wonderful choice for dry skin, helping to soften it and lock in moisture.
If you’re still not sure what your skin type is, we have a simple test that can help you find out. You can easily do it from the comfort of your own home, and the time you spend on it will pay off every time you give your skin exactly what it needs.
1. Cleanse and wash your face
It’s hard to tell your skin type when your face is covered in makeup or other products that aren’t naturally there. Start by cleansing your face with a gentle cleanser with a simple formula. This will help prevent the results from being influenced by a high concentration of active ingredients.
For cleansing, you can use our Supple Skin Makeup Removing Mask, and then follow with cleansing water, such as the Dew Drop, Magic Well, or Spring of Beauty. If you prefer bar soaps, you can use our oil soaps too.
Once your face is clean, rinse it with lukewarm water.
2. Wait 30–60 minutes
Now, give your skin some time to return to its natural state. Thirty minutes is enough, but if you want to be extra sure, give your skin the full 60 minutes. While you wait, don’t apply any skincare products, just let your skin be.
You can make the wait a little more enjoyable by catching up on Havlík’s newspaper. 😊
3. Look in the mirror. What do you see?
By this time, your skin should have returned to its natural state. How your skin looks and feels will now help you determine your skin type.
Shiny skin with enlarged pores
In that case, you most likely have oily skin. While you’ve been leaving your skin untouched, your sebaceous glands have begun producing excess sebum. That’s the main culprit behind the visible shine. Look for products that help balance sebum production, such as skincare from our Beautiful Young Lady Line. You can also try a complete routine designed specifically for oily skin in our Problematic SkinDiscovery Box.
Tight, rough, and flaky skin
These are typical signs of dry skin that’s lacking moisture. Because your skin has a reduced ability to retain water, some of its moisture has evaporated during the 30–60 minutes you left it untouched. Reach for hydrating skincare, such as hyaluronic acid products like the Angelic Face or the Hyaluronic Acid Face Serum. Another fantastic helper is the active ingredient HySilk, a low-molecular-weight form of hyaluronic acid. You can find it in products such as the AquaVibe Face Mask or the AquaBella Face Cream.
Shiny skin in the T-zone but not on the rest of the face
This likely means you have combination skin, which behaves differently in different areas of your face. Oil most commonly appears in the T-zone (the forehead, nose, and chin), which tends to be the most prone to excess sebum production. You may want to try products designed for targeted application, such as serums or facial oils with dropper applicators. For the oilier areas of your face, try the Hemp Seed Oil. For drier areas, Argan Oil or the Countess‘ Serum with Pentavitin will do the trick.
I don’t see or feel anything unusual
It looks like you have normal skin. Your skin isn’t particularly prone to excess oil production, nor does it struggle with retaining moisture. While there’s no need to tackle any specific skin concerns, you want to make sure you keep your skin happy and balanced. Stick to regular cleansing, perhaps with afore-mentioned Supple Skin Makeup Removing Mask or our Cleansing Serums, and treat your skin to lightweight creams, such as the Beautiful Woman Face Cream, the Beautiful Gardener Line, or try our Super Infusion of Vitamin C to give your already happy skin an extra glow. 😊
Quick Recap
- Oily skin – looks shiny and has enlarged pores after 30-60 minutes
- Dry skin – feels tight and rough to touch and may become flaky after 30-60 minutes
- Combination skin – looks shiny mainly in the T-zone, while the rest of the face remains shine-free
- Normal skin – doesn’t look noticeably shinier like oily skin or feel noticeably tighter and rough like dry skin
